The UN Resident Coordinator in Djibouti, Mrs. Valerie Cliff, visited the Japanese Self-Defense Force base on 28 July 2016. Mrs. Cliff met with Army Colonel Shinji FURUSHO, Commanding Officer, Deployment Support Group for Counter-Piracy Enforcement Forces. The visit included a briefing from the Commander and his team of senior officials from JSDF regarding the contribution of Japan to the international counter-piracy efforts, as well as a tour of the compound. Mrs. Cliff praised the Commander and his team for the valuable role of Japan in bringing peace and security to the Horn of Africa region through its operations in Djibouti. On the occasion, Mrs. Cliff also met with the incoming Commanding Officer, Army Colonel Kazuyuki SATO who will be taking up his assignment soon.
